LeT South India head arrested for IISc attack
In a major breakthrough in the terrorist attack on Indian Institute of Science (IISc), the Bangalore City police arrested a man who is said to be the head of Lashkar-e-Toiba operations in South India.
His name was given as Abdul Rahman, aged about 35. Announcing the arrest at a press conference, City Police Commissioner Ajai Kumar Singh said that Rahman was apprehended from his house in Nalgonda in Andhra Pradesh, on Jan 1.
On the night of Dec 28, a terrorist had opened fire indiscriminately at delegates participating in an international conference at J N Tata auditorium in the IISc campus. Prof. M C Puri of IIT, Delhi was killed in the attack while four others were injured.
“He is said to be an Indian national, but we are verifying,'’ Singh told reporters. Sources said Rahman was also known as Razi-ur-Rahman alias Ummed.
