Oracle India to Add 1,400 Jobs

Oracle wants to expand its presence to smaller towns and businesses in the fast-growing Indian economy.

Oracle said Tuesday it will add 1,400 people to its workforce in India as the company reaches out to smaller business customers in the country’s towns and rural areas.

Speaking at the Open World annual developer conference in Mumbai, Oracle President Charles Phillips said the company is ramping up the expansion of its operations in India and will increase its workforce to 10,000 in the next eight months. The new workers will be in the areas of sales and marketing, product development, consulting, and product support and services.

“We have been in India for more than 19 years and the infrastructure we have put in place now enables us to go beyond the metro cities and into the cities that are the up-and-coming economic engines of India,” Mr. Phillips said.

The software company’s current Indian workforce strength of 8,600 is about 17 percent of its 51,000 global workforce. It already operates in six Indian cities. Under the expansion plan, the company will start operating in 15 Indian cities within the next eight months.

Skilled labour, jobs shortage in India, says The Economist survey India is subject to a strange dichotomy — it neither has sufficient jobs nor enough skilled workers. This makes the countrys labour force its biggest challenge, says The Economists survey of business in India. Indian business has created a lot of impact on the international business community. India is virtually an international preoccupation...so this survey was a natural exercise for us as we wanted to enlighten the global community on the business situation of India, said Simon Long, South Asia bureau chief of The Economist and author of the survey.

Rural India corners a chunk of industries, jobs

Rural India corners a chunk of industries, jobs Who says economic reforms are urban-centric? The countryside has outperformed urban India in the number of enterprises it houses. Over 61% of the enterprises engaged in economic activities other than crop production and plantation are in rural India compared with just 38.7% in urban areas, according to the provisional figures of the Fifth Economic Census. This reinforces the trend observed in the previous (1998) census, in which rural India accounted for 58.3% of such enterprises, while 41.7% of them were in urban areas. The current census also reveals that rural India accounts

The Naked Investor: Closer look at India as investment possibility The question I am most frequently asked is where I would recommend investors put their hard earned cash. Which begs, of course, the eternal question not of what has gone before, but of what will happen in the future. Oh to have such vision. Failing which, all that can be done is to look at the state of a market and gauge what indicators of growth there are to support an investment decision. We have, sadly, in recent times seen many jobs vanishing overseas to eastern countries. So what is going on in reality? I thought
