Defence to boost India-Russia ties

India today made a subtle declaration that it continues to maintain strong defence ties with Russia. At the same time, though, it backed the message with a clear indication that Indian missile scientists and technology were second to none.

Addressing a gathering of top officers, scientists and engineers from India Russia and representatives from industrial units involved in the missiles production at the BrahMos complex, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said the missile project would open up new areas of cooperation with that country, and highlighted its considerable export potential in the global arms market as well.

BrahMos is indeed the most important milestone in our cooperation with Russia…The project will open up new pathways to our existing relationship with Russia in other areas as well,he said.

India, Germany to hold strategic dialogue India and Germany have agreed to set up a strategic dialogue at the level of Defence Secretary/State Secretary of Defence and three sub-groups on strategic, defence and military-to-military cooperation. The agreement was part of a large defence framework cooperation accord signed by visiting Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee with his German counterpart Franz Joseph Jung. India looking for defence cooperation with US Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran today said India was currently exploring contours of cooperation with the United States that include technology transfers, co-production, joint development and collaborative research in the field of defence.
