Staff induction to be outsourced to India

After software and customer service, induction of employees is the latest to be outsourced to India. With 30-50% savings in costs, MNCs are now sending new employees to India for induction and training and then dispatching them to locations across the world.

US-based IT consultancy firm Thoughtworks, for instance, sends all new hires from across the world to Bangalore for induction. We have chosen India as a hub for inducting employees as the country has become core to our delivery services. Also, it moulds employees into a global mindset and trains them to respect different cultures, says Matthew Simons, managing director, Thoughtworks India. Even domestic majors like Genpact, Infosys, TCS also fly new recruits from foreign universities to India for orientation and training.

Though its largely restricted to captive use right now, induction outsourcing is catching up. We train about 75 graduates from foreign universities in India every year. This year we plan to extend it to 200 people per year. Induction and training in India results in 30-50% savings despite the cost of flying them down to Bangalore, says Simons.
