AOL to launch web tools boutique in India
One of the worlds most aggressive Internet players, the $2 billion America Online (AOL Inc), owned by US media major Time Warner, will soon launch its popular web-tools like instant messenger, Netscape, Mapquest, video-on-demand, movies-on-demand, AOL-radio and other digital lifestyle products customised to Indian needs. AOL is putting together a portal-based strategy revolving around a pure high-speed broadband play for Indian users. It will also introduce online video programming and online TV, an industry source told FE. AOL India refused to comment on the issue.
The Indian-version of AOL is likely to offer various services for free initially, sources said. Maneesh Dhir, who was earlier heading the research division of the company in Bangalore, will head Indian AOL venture. AOLs move is expected to widen the broadband customer base in the country.

Flight 188 was about one hour into its flight, which was to include a scheduled stop in Birmingham, England, when a suspicious package was found in one of the washrooms.
Somewhere over Montreal, a passenger was in one of the bathrooms and noticed what he believed to be a suspicious package, said Sgt. Peter Brandwood of Peel Regional Police.

Package on Air India flight: probe expanded
The discovery of a suspicious package of tools on board an Air India flight leaving Toronto earlier this week is now the focus of an international investigation, Canadian police have said.
Peel Regional Police detective Malcolm Bow said officers were pulled off other cases to help with the investigation, which now involves police outside Canada.
Mr. Bow, who heads Pearson International Airports Criminal Investigations Bureau, however, refused to discuss the scope of the investigation.

State Bank of India is set to launch SBI Connect — the country’s most ambitious bank branch networking programme — which will enable customers to operate their accounts in all key Indian cities and conduct their transactions online.
Although new age private banks have all their branches networked, their number of branches are a fraction of that of SBI.

Sitel India sets up Chennai facility
Sitel India, a third party contact centre services provider, has announced the launch of its global delivery centre in Chennai, which will be its third location in India.
The company is hoping to hire about 1,000 people over the next one year for its Chennai operations.
The Chennai delivery facility, in which the company has invested about Rs 25 crore, is expected to be operational from September. It has already started hiring people and has so far hired about 50 professionals.
