GE to up sales in China, India
GENERAL Electric Co. is investing in developing technologies and plans to double its sales in countries such as China and India by the end of the decade.
GE has begun investing in developing technologies like medical imaging devices that will cost about a third of the price of current machines in order to expand in emerging markets, GM CEO Jeff Immelt said
The company currently does about $US25 billion ($A33 billion) in business in emerging markets and aims to double sales to $US50 billion ($A66 billion) by 2010, Immelt said.

Coca-Cola revamps top-level India team
In a major organisational revamp, Atul Singh, India division head of Coca-Cola, has appointed three new vice-presidents who will be responsible for region-wise sales. He has also created a new position, that of vice-president (corporate strategy), and appointed a new man to spearhead marketing.
Milind Sathe is being brought from Coke Russia to head the South and Western regional operations while Sumanto Dutta is coming from Atul Singhs former office in Coke China to look after northern sales.

A snapshot of consumer sentiment shows that Asians fall into two camps —one suffering the impact of high interest rates and oil prices and another bolstered by rising incomes and robust jobs markets.
South Korea, Thailand and Malaysia are in the first category, with signs consumption growth is slowing reinforcing a view that interest rates have peaked or are close to doing so.
In contrast, consumers in China, India, Singapore and Hong Kong are expected to remain confident for the rest of 2006.

Airbus ups sales target for India
Encouraged by the massive orders placed by Indian carriers, European aircraft-maker Airbus Industrie has revised its demand projection for the Indian market to 800-1,000 aeroplanes worth $80 billion by 2026. The earlier projection envisaged orders for 570 aeroplanes worth $40 billion by 2023.
Notably, about 40 of these aircraft are expected to be super jumbo A 380s. “The Indian market is very strong. We see orders between 800 and 1,000 aircraft in the next 20 years, including 40 A-380s,” said Kiran Rao, senior vice-president, marketing and pricing, Airbus Industrie.

Fiat and Tata plan India venture
Tata Motors and Fiat are planning joint production of small cars and engines in India in the first manufacturing deal since the Indian and Italian carmakers formed an alliance last year.
The tie-up, expected to be signed off on Tuesday by the board of Tata and announced on Tuesday or on Wednesday, will mark a renewed attempt by Fiat to boost its position in the rapidly growing Indian car market.
It comes after Fiat announced deals in China, Russia and car finance on Monday and upgraded profit forecasts for the year as six-monthly car and van sales
