India envoy arrives on Nepal trip
India’s foreign secretary has arrived in Nepal for meetings with government officials and opposition politicians.
Shyam Saran is likely to promote India’s policy of pushing for a return to democracy, analysts say.
He is expected to meet Nepal’s King Gyanendra, who assumed direct power in February saying politicians had failed to tackle the nation’s Maoist rebels.
Opposition politicians and Maoists have stepped up their protests against the king’s move.

LaHood and wife head to India, Nepal and Vietnam
Rep. Ray LaHood, R-Peoria, and his wife left Friday on a 12-day, taxpayer-funded trip to India, Nepal and Vietnam.
LaHood is one of eight House members on the congressional trip, which is being led by House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Plano.
LaHood is scheduled to return to Peoria on April 18, spokesman Tim Butler said.
He's making the trip because it is related to his duties as a member of the House Intelligence Committee, Butler said. LaHood is taking his wife because they have limited time to spend together, he said.

Restore democracy, India tells Nepal King
India, it appears has once again expressed its strong resentment against the monarchy in Nepal after New Delhis special envoy put the ball in King Gyanendras court to restore democracy and quell two weeks of bloody mass protests in the Himalayan Kingdom.
Dr Karan Singh, Prime ministers special envoy to Nepal said on his return from Kathmandu after meeting the king that I am optimistic. I am hopeful that the king will make an announcement shortly with regard to restoration of democratic process in the landlocked country. The ball is in the kings court.

India has expressed its readiness to extend financial support to Nepal considering that the Himalayan kingdom could face serious economic challenge in the present scenario .
According to official sources, India had already conveyed its willingness to help in this regard, they said.
The GP Koirala-led government of Nepal had said it would respond to Indias offer of help after working out the exact requirements, they added.
